INTELLECTUAL STANDARDS PART 2

  1. Depth
    1. I understand "depth" to mean a statement, question, or idea that shows knowledge or insight.
    2. In other words, when we are able to understand all the complexities of a topic. The more depth you have the easier it will be understand or convey your message.
    3. An example of someone exhibiting depth with social media would be making a blog about something you're passionate about. I've seen some travel blogs that go into depth about traveling.
  2. Breadth
    1. I understand "breadth" to mean being able to see things from other points of views.
    2. In other words, we can see other perspectives and see why they might think that way. It will give you a wider range of ideas and probably make you less biased.
    3. An example of someone exhibiting breadth with social media would be; say you wanted to post a picture of you and your friends. Two of your friends don't look good in the picture but you look really good. By using breadth you realize that the shouldn't post that picture because your friends that don't look good wouldn't want you to post it. Instead you post a picture that everyone looks good in, not just you.
  3. Logic
    1. I understand "logic" to mean facts.
    2. In other words, you conduct/assessed something based on how valid it was. Making decisions that are based on facts.
    3. An example of someone exhibiting logic with social media would be sharing things that are factual. I see a lot of fake articles on facebook.Take time to actually check if what you post is right.
  4. Significance
    1. I understand "significance" to mean the most important piece of information.
    2. In other words, what is the main idea and what facts are most important? Realizing the significance of something will help you understand it and why it's important.
    3. An example of someone exhibiting significance with social media would be when you're on a forum and you want an answer to your question, you read and look for the main idea and what's most important.
  5. Fairness
    1. I understand "fairness" to mean treating everyone equally.
    2. In other words, not valuing my opinions/thoughts over others. Just being courteous and considering others points of view.
    3. An example of someone exhibiting fairness with social media would be not hating on someone when they don't agree with you, instead you try to understand why they think what they think
  6. Briefly (in a few sentences) summarize accurately the concept of Intellectual Standards. Intellectual Standards help us look at things for how they really are, they help us assess the way we think.
  7. The purpose of the assignment is learn how to think better and to apply it on social media and in our lives.
  8. The key question at the heart of the assignment is "now that we understand the Intellectual Standards will we use them?"

  1. Hi Elena! Great job with this post.
I am questioning the precision of your statement on "Logic" Can you elaborate on this further? Is it only facts? Or do you think logic has to do with other things?

Thank you for your post and have a lovely week!

    1. Hi Jessica,
What statement are you questioning? How does your question relate to the preciseness of the statement?
      Thanks,

  2. I am questioning the clarity of your statement "not valuing my opinions/thoughts over others. Just being courteous and considering others points of view. " because by using the word 'Just' it makes it seem as if you're stating something vaguely. Instead, of providing a more clear in depth explanation statement to your understanding of the word 'fairness.'
