Social Media Concepts

1. Everything you see on Social Media is altered. We present ourselves in certain ways that aren't always true. An example of this would be posting a picture that you edited with photoshop or facetune.
2. Social Media can shape what we think. We don't tend to realize that some of the stuff we see is false or altered and we try to change to conform with it. We choose to only share certain things that we think people want to see, not what truly reflects us.
3. Social Media content can be interpreted in lots of different ways. Each person understands things differently depending on their own personal morals, experiences, mood, and cultural/religious backgrounds. Are we aware of how other might interpret our post?
4. Social Media influences the way the general population thinks. It alters the way people think and shows that a certain mindset/way of life is more right than others.
The point of this assignment is to explain what Social Media is and what it's used for. In other words, it talks about why people post what they post and how it's interpreted by all kinds of audiences.
For example, some accounts on instagram only post pictures of them traveling, having fun, and living well. They're selective with what they share and you only get to see the good parts, so you think that's how life should be. In reality they could be living a lie and be super unhappy. It was a trend for a little bit, popular accounts would start posting their actual lives and "the behind the scenes" photos to show that not everything is as perfect as they make it seem.
The purpose of this assignment is to make us aware of what Social Media is, how it's used , and how people interpret things differently. Being aware of these things will make us more mindful of what we post or how we view other peoples content.
