ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT SHARING

  • What do you take for granted or assume about sharing?
I take how easy it is to share content for granted, it takes less then a minute to share something online and it has the potential to reach a huge audience. Whether I'm sharing a picture on Instagram or posting something on Facebook, I assume that people will see what I'm sharing. I also know people judge me based off what I share.
  • What other information do you need to consider to better understand sharing?
There's an emotional component to sharing, according to Steve Rayson, the 7 strongest emotions that drive social sharing are: amusement, surprise, heartwarming, beauty, inspiration, warning, and shock. Sharing certain content can make you feel like you're apart of a community.  It also gives us a way to show the most idealistic version of ourselves, we share content that represents the best parts of our life/self.
  • The purpose of the assignment is to help us understand why we share the things that we share online.
  • The key question at the heart of the assignment is "do you have a better understanding of  why people share content on social media?"

    1. Hi Elena! Good job on your blog post!
Your statement had precision when you said "Sharing certain content can make you feel like you're apart of a community." Because when you post, you're posting for others. When those people respond, it feels very much like a community.

    2. I'm questioning the clarity of your statement " it takes less then a minute to share something online and it has the potential to reach a huge audience." can you maybe give me a real world example to help illustrate your statement?
