ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS

  • What is a digital footprint?
A digital footprint is information about a particular person that exists on the Internet. Weather it's what you post on social media, comment, email, like, retweet, etc. It's your online identity and builds your online reputation/impression.
  • What conclusions are you coming to about a digital footprint?
Your digital footprint has the potential to be seen by millions of people, basically anyone who can access the internet.  Future employers and colleges sometime google applicants and "according to a 2013 survey of college admissions officers by Kaplan, the company that makes test prep guides for the SAT and ACT, 29% of them have Googled an applicant, and almost the same number have checked a Facebook page or other social networking site to learn more about them." It's important to establish a positive online presence and leave a good digital footprint.

The purpose of the assignment is to learn about digital footprints and how we can keep our digital footprint positive.
The key question at the heart of the assignment is "now that you know what a digital footprint is, how are you going to keep yours positive?"

  1. Hi Elena! Awesome job.
I am questioning the clarity of your statement "It's important to establish a positive online presence and leave a good digital footprint." How can we establish a positive online presence? Can you give me examples?
Thanks and have a great week!

  2. Your statement had clarity when you said "It's your online identity and builds your online reputation/impression." Our digital footprints are much like first impressions. You can only make one good first impression.

  4. I am questioning the depth of your statement on what a digital footprint is because I'm wondering, if you posted something that you shouldn't have posted when you were younger and realized it was inappropriate and deleted it later to prevent future employers, recruiters, etc. from seeing it, are they still able to find it through your "digital footprint?"
