REMIXING CONTENT

Image
I understand "remixing content" to mean changing it from its original state. In other words, by removing or adding material to a form of media you can create something new. Photos, songs, artwork, and videos can all be remixed. An example of "remixing content" would be songs that are remixed. Lot's of popular songs get remixed all the time. People change the beats, speed them up, or add parts of other song to them and that changes the original song. The purpose of the assignment is to show you how popular remix culture is and the impact it has on business, society, and culture. The key question at the heart of the assignment is "how can you remix the content that you share?"

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT SHARING

What do you take for granted or assume about sharing? I take how easy it is to share content for granted, it takes less then a minute to share something online and it has the potential to reach a huge audience. Whether I'm sharing a picture on Instagram or posting something on Facebook, I assume that people will see what I'm sharing. I also know people judge me based off what I share. What other information do you need to consider to better understand sharing? There's an emotional component to sharing, according to Steve Rayson, the 7 strongest emotions that drive social sharing are: amusement, surprise, heartwarming, beauty, inspiration, warning, and shock. Sharing certain content can make you feel like you're apart of a community.  It also gives us a way to show the most idealistic version of ourselves, we share content that represents the best parts of our life/self.   Why Do We Share On Social Media? The purpose of the assignment is to help us unde...

CRAP DETECT UNTRUTHFUL NEWS

Image
One article on you consider to be very good -  New York Times One article you consider to be only partially trustworthy -  Yahoo Finance One article you consider to be probably untrustworthy -  Babylon Bee   All of these articles are from some type of news website. The first one that I thought was accurate and considered to be good was in the New York Times website, the second one that was partially trustworthy was from Yahoo Finance, and the last one which is untrustworthy: The Babylon Bee.  All three were well written and looked like actual news companies. The webpages all looked similar, they had a title, pictures, advertisements, and options to easily share them. Some differences between them were the Babylon Bee didn't have an author, or links in the article to back it up, it also seemed far fetched. I had to do additional research to find out if it was true or not and it's not true. Both Yahoo Finance and the New York Times article had authors and...

EDITORIAL ON UNTRUTHFUL NEWS

Image
I feel like it would be difficult to completely eliminate fake news. You would have to have someone or a system monitoring and censoring everything, all the social media networks and websites. I think it'll be impossible for a single person to do. It might work with a big group of people but you would have to make sure these people are unbiased. If there where a machine or program that can fact check things so it's easier to sort whats real and what's fake, it could work. The bottom line is it's probably impossible to stop all fake news but setting up a group of people/system that can monitor and censor it may help.Gilad Lotan said "if our collective goals include increasing trust in institutions and supporting an informed public, there is a lot of work to be done, and not only by Facebook. A number of actors, including publishers, social networks, content distributors, and forums, are all important in this space." This is true, it's going to take a...

THE ART OF CRAP DETECTION

Everyone is bias. Seth Godin said, "t he best professionals are biased. And smart enough to embrace only the biases that keep them successful." So, being biased only becomes a problem when it stops us from moving forward. What exactly is bullshit anyway? Bullshit is nonsense, exaggeration and lies. It is used to mislead and deceive people. The main point of the paragraph was to give us an idea of how crap detection works. In other words , we need to be able to realize lies. We can do that by questioning what people tell you. It's important that we're aware that not everything is true. For example , on facebook I see a lot of those diet drink ad's and most of them don't have any proof to back them up. If you are not able to detect the bs then you might end up falling for them and buying. The purpose of the assignment is to educate us on detecting bullshit and make us think more about the info. we are given. The key question at the heart of t...

How to Make Your Idea Stick - SUCCESs

Image
Part 1 Simplifying: you should only include whats important. Focus on the main point of your idea. Unexpected: grab your audience's attention. Talk about interesting and surprising things. Concrete: try to paint a picture of your idea in the readers head. Use real life situations to get your message across. Credible: use facts from reliable sources. Don't use generalized/vague statistics. People are more likely to trust experts. Emotional: make your idea relatable, people care about people. Stories : use a story to convey your idea. It will help people connect to what you're saying. Part 2 The main point  of the reading is to explain the SUCCESs Model and how it will make your idea stick. In other words,  we want people to remember and care about what we are talking about. By using this model we can hopefully achieve that. For example , there's this video on Youtube called "Farm to Fridge", it's very explicit and that grabs people's at...
